Local Area Agreement

The former Communities and Local Government Minister David Milliband listed the County of Durham among the second wave of areas in the country to pilot Local Area Agreements (LAAs).

LAAs bring together all tiers of local government with the other main public sector agencies including the Police, Primary Care Trusts and Job Centre Plus, working with existing bodies such as the County Durham Strategic Partnership, and Local Strategic Partnerships (LSPs) like East Durham LSP, to examine and identify areas of major change that will most benefit local communities. They are based around the following four key themes/ blocks:

External funding streams are poured into the four themes/ blocks, and soon they will become a single pot and the strategic partnership for Durham will identify its own priorities so it can put money where it feels its needed, in conjunction with East Durham Local Strategic Partnership (LSP).

At the East Durham LSP meeting on 9th March 2007, four workshops took place around the four themes/ blocks to identify how the LSP is going to contribute to the LAA outcomes and targets and how it'll ensure its priorities are included. The key issues/ information identified to help us to improve the delivery of the LAA at a local level, and a presentation on the Economy block can be found at the links above.
