The Learning Culture

Improving the learning culture within the district is key to the LSP, and the main implementation group to take this forward is the Learning and Skills Group.

Some of the improvements made so far are as follows:

  • Support for parents and 0-12 year olds for the benefit of future generations through Sure Start and On Track programmes.
  • Engaging people in learning through sport and leisure.
  • Providing learning opportunities in the workplace and supporting local businesses.
  • Aim High Centres, an innovative approach to enable local people to access information, advice and guidance about education, skills, training and career opportunities.
  • Two Education Action Zones in the district have narrowed the gap between district and county levels at all key stages.
  • Free internet access and informal learning programmes at all ten libraries in the district.
