Welcome to the website of East Durham Local Strategic Partnership!
East Durham Local Strategic Partnership is an organisation comprising of community stakeholders from the public, voluntary, community and private sectors. Its role is to find out what the community wants and needs, where it is needed most and to develop a Local Neighbourhood Renewal Strategy and Community Plan to achieve these aims. The Partnerships overall vision is that by 2010 everyone will have worked together to create a sustainable future for East Durham, resulting in a thriving economy, an improved environment, a strong learning culture, and safe, healthy communities.
Formed in March 2001, East Durham LSP is committed to finding better ways of working to benefit all those who live, learn, work in and visit the District, by bringng together initiatives and services that support rather than contradict each other. Just like all the other LSPs throughout the country, East Durham LSP is expected to set targets for how things will change over time in their most disadvantaged neighbourhoods, especially in terms of reducing unemploymentand crime and improving skills, health, housing and the physical environment.
"The opportunity ahead is one that represents a positive bright future for East Durham. A lot of work has already been done and much of the partnership work has been put in place that will really enable the area to move forward at a pace"(Councillor Alan Napier - LSP Chair)
Membership of the LSP is open to any group who are from a public, private, voluntary or community sector organisation. It is important for you to join, as through membership you can influence the LSP and the Community Strategy. The Community Strategy brings local and regional priorities together in one document, and outlines the main actions we need to take if the district is to turn the challenges it faces into opportunities, and improve the quality of life for everyone in East Durham.
